Why should I use ARBSC?
Want to advertise to contractors that you’re an inspector who not only exceeds licensing requirements in the State of Alaska but also performs thorough and unbiased inspections?  ARBSC is the program that will allow you to advertise the level of work that you are performing in the field is of the highest quality and to the letter of the code.  Inspectors who are certified by the ARBSC program are required to hold more certification than the state requires for licensing, but they also offer inspectors a unified front of code interpretation for those tricky portions in the code that can be interpreted a multitude of ways.  Inspectors will now have a reliable source within the state of Alaska to go to when they themselves have a code question in how to interpret it.  ARBSC is also a code body that can arbitrate code related disputes between inspectors and contractors should the need ever arise. The services that ARBSC can provide will reduce the liability inspectors in the field face, as their inspections are designed to be thorough and held to the highest standard within the state.

How does the process work if I use ARBSC?
In general, once a job or home is signed up with ARBSC to be part of the program the contractor chooses an ARBSC certified inspector to perform the required inspections on the project. Upon completion of each inspection the inspector submits the inspection type and date completed to ARBSC to be posted for public view. If at any time the contractor and/or inspector have a code-related dispute the ARBSC review panel will be able to arbitrate and make rulings on the code for the project. For more information about how the program works, please view the page 'How It Works'.

How do I become a licensed ARBSC inspector?
Since ARBSC inspectors are held to the highest standard, it is required that all ARBSC inspectors complete the required education after they can submit proof they currently have an International Code Council Combination Dwelling Inspector certification that is current. This education has not been finalized but it will contain classes that cover the current adopted code and the organization's interpretations of commonly disputed passages. The required training will also cover how to perform inspections and how to use paperwork and inspection guidelines of the program.

What is the compensation for ARBSC inspections?
While the compensation for ARBSC inspections has not been set, it will be in addition to your normal fees for performing the regular ICC or ICBO inspections. This means that you will still charge your normal fees for code compliance inspections to the contractor, however, with ARBSC inspections you are compensated on top of your normal fees by ARBSC for the extra steps needed to comply with their program standards.
